Open System is a loose term depicting the connectivity of tube sets and bag systems. In order to maintain sterility, the connections must be made under a laminar flow hood, using aseptic technique. Although the assemblies are provided gamma sterilized, the connections must be made while taking consideration to the environment. The connectors, and therefore, systems are less expensive, however present a higher risk factor, dependant upon technician technique.
